The gentle murmur of the Mediterranean Sea, the lingering warmth of a July evening, and the promise of world-class classical music—these were the alluring components that drew me to Platja de Sant Sebastià on the 10th of July. As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple, a unique magic began to unfurl, transforming the bustling city beach into an open-air concert hall.

The evening commenced with a delightful journey into the heart of Spanish romanticism: Enric Granados's Three Spanish Dances, presented in a vibrant orchestration by Joan Lamote de Grignon.1 From the first note, the music seemed to dance on the breeze, each melody a brushstroke painting scenes of sun-drenched plazas and passionate flamenco. Lamote de Grignon’s orchestration truly brought out the inherent vivacity and delicate intricacies of Granados’s compositions, setting a tone of joyous anticipation for the operatic spectacle to follow. The collective sigh of the audience, a mix of seasoned classical aficionados and curious newcomers, was palpable as the final notes of Granados faded into the twilight.
