StandBy is all about enhancing the user experience when your iPhone is tethered to a charging dock or when you simply need to access information quickly without unlocking your device. For someone like me who constantly juggles work and personal life, it has proven to be a game-changer.
Getting started with StandBy is remarkably straightforward, which I absolutely adore. Just connect your iPhone to a charger and place it on its side – it’s as if your phone knows it’s time to shine. Once your phone is stationary, press the side button to activate StandBy. Then, swipe left or right to explore the variety of available widgets. It’s like having a personal assistant right on your lock screen.
One of the reasons I’ve fallen head over heels for StandBy is its high degree of customization. While the alarm clock widget is the default, I’ve tailored my StandBy experience to match my daily routines.
To customize your StandBy widgets, simply long-press on any widget while StandBy mode is active. After unlocking your phone with Face ID, you’ll see the entire widget stack in jiggle mode. I cherish this part – it feels like curating my own little world. Adding widgets is as easy as tapping the “+” icon in the top left corner of the screen, and removing widgets is just as simple by tapping the “-” icon attached to their thumbnail.

No more fumbling in the dark to check my notifications or see the time. And, of course, I’ve got Night Mode turned on to ensure my screen never disrupts my sleep. As much as I adore StandBy, there are times when I’m ready to return to my standard lock screen. To deactivate StandBy, I simply head to my iPhone’s settings and find the StandBy option. Toggling it off is as easy as saying goodnight.
