A Big Year for Sci-fi Fantasy Fans, as New Movies Are on the Horizon

This year is looking to be a good year for fans of epic sci-fi fantasy films, with two highly-anticipated movies set to grace our screens. One is a sequel to the 1984 classic “Dune” and the other is an all-new creation, “Rebel Moon”, by the celebrated director Zack Snyder. While Dune: Part Two continues the story from the first installment, Rebel Moon promises a fresh take on the genre, with a storyline sure to enthrall audiences.

On Tuesday, Netflix released the first look at the upcoming movie, Rebel Moon, giving fans a peek into what they can expect. Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Sofia Boutella as the lead, Rebel Moon is a story about a young woman tasked with saving a galactic colony from falling into the hands of a tyrannical ruler and her army.

Kora, played by Sofie Boutella, is a stranger living among the villagers in a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy. When the Mother World’s armies threaten the colony, Kora assumes the role of their leader and sets out to assemble an army of rebels. She enlists fighters from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge and trains them for the impossible task of saving their home.

The plot sounds like the perfect recipe for an epic sci-fi fantasy film, and fans expect that Snyder’s signature style will be evident in the visual effects, action sequences, and the kind of storytelling that made 300 and Watchmen so successful. According to Snyder, Rebel Moon was inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s classic samurai movies, in which a band of warriors comes together to fight against a common enemy.

While fans may have to wait to watch Rebel Moon and Dune part two in theatres, there is still a lot of excitement about what is to come. In the meantime, there are plenty of sci-fi movies on Netflix to keep viewers entertained. Whether you’re in the mood for classics like The Terminator or newer releases such as The Midnight Sky, Netflix has it all.
