If you watched the show, you know him. I must admit I did… at least from to time when there was nothing else to watch. Apparently over 30 years he recorded over 5000 episodes of it.
Jerry Springer, best known for his long-running talk show, has died at the age of 79. Springer’s chat show became a symbol of low-brow television, featuring on-air fights, swearing and infidelity revelations. Fellow chat show hosts and colleagues paid tribute to Springer, who was born in London during World War Two and moved to the US at age four.
His chat show began as a regular talk show before switching to salacious content, with Springer defending it against accusations of being too low-brow. He also hosted America’s Got Talent and Judge Jerry and made his stage debut in Chicago. He recently starred on the US version of The Masked Singer. Springer’s family asked people to make a donation or act of kindness in tribute to the way he would sign off from his talk shows.
I used to love watching me some Jerry Springer. When they stopped the guests from duking it out on stage it lost a vital essence. It used to be a guilty treat I’d give myself when I was at home sick.
