Classic Works of Japanese Literature and AI Technology

C

This is an interesting way of using artificial intelligence: Sony Music Entertainment has launched a new audio book app, YOMIBITO Plus, featuring classic works of Japanese literature read by synthesized voices of three notable voice actors which have been replicated using AI technology from the company CoeFont.

The app includes AI-replicated voices of the late Kenji Utsumi, as well as Kentarō Utsumi providing positive feedback on the technology. Works with AI-replicated voices include Utsumi reading Kenji Miyazawa’s poem and Natsume Sōseki’s I am a Cat and Botchan, Konishi reading Akutagawa’s Rashōmon, and Umeda reading Dazai’s Run, Melos! The app is free until March 28, 2024.
