Starbucks is launching a line of olive oil-infused coffee drinks in Italy as part of their expansion into the Italian food and drinks market. The Oleato range features a variety of hot and iced drinks, including an iced shaken espresso and a latte with olive oil.
The drinks will be available in Southern California in the US this spring, with the UK, Middle East and Japan to follow later this year. The benefits of olive oil are due to its monounsaturated fatty acids and polyphenols, and the trend of “drink olive oil” rose on TikTok last year.
Starbucks faced opposition when they opened their first store in Italy in 2018, and when news of Domino’s Pizza leaving Italy broke last year, it was celebrated by some.
Ok so I have tried it, but I don’t know if this is something I want to try it. Sounds to me like the company is desperate to stay afloat because nobody wants to pay for overpriced coffee anymore…
